STRESS REDUCTION…STRESS MANAGEMENT

You may remember the scene from the movie “Analyze This” where the mobster say to the shrink: “I got stress, Doc!”

Well pretty much everybody complains about being stressed these days. The vast majority of clients in my office have stress as a part of why they see me. Some folks will tell you that Massage can reduce stress. While Massage can certainly help with the effects on stress, massage alone cannot reduce your stress.

Screen Shot 2015-06-12 at 1.18.02 PMI used to tell people who asked about reducing stress, kiddingly, to move to Fiji and be a beachcomber. Sadly, it is no longer a stress free environment.

The truth is that reducing stress in your life is a matter of lifestyle changes, and can only happen by making changes consciously and intentionally. Depressing, right? Our 21st century world does not easily lend itself to lifestyle changes and these changes are often loaded with other consequences, which may cause additional emotional stress.

So, if you can’t make a major change in lifestyle, then Stress Management is an alternative. This still requires serious thought, planning and taking action.

Some steps to take:

  • Learn about the effects of stress and notice which are happening to you.
  • Identify which things are stressful in your life; decide if they can be changed.
  • Learn about activities that give you energy, are relaxing, change your attitude
  • Make a plan to add these activities to your daily routine to balance out the effects of stress.
  • And of course: Get a massage to experience the deep relaxation massage can provide.

Whether you come for a massage or not, I can work with you on building an individualized  Stress Management plan. Let’s talk.
